Tottenham Hotspur FC Stadium Pitch Renovation & Repurpose 2025
August 2025
In April 2025, Fineturf were delighted to once again deliver the renovation and repurposing of the stadium pitch at the world-renowned Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as part of the ongoing three-year contract with the club.
For this season’s installation, the club opted for the new Tillers-designed and manufactured hybrid carpet, an innovation first introduced to the industry and customers in January 2025. The 55mm pile was grown at the Tillers Turf site under the expert supervision of the Tillers UK grounds team for a 12-week period, before being infilled with sports sand to a depth of 40mm and overseeded with a 100% ryegrass seed mixture to deliver a resilient and high-performance playing surface.
While the new surface was growing in Lincolnshire, a team worked at the stadium to lift and extract the existing hybrid turf system, which was transported back to Tillers Turf for repurposing. As part of this process, the turf was shredded, screened, washed, and returned to the manufacturer for reuse in future hybrid systems. The extracted sports sand was also screened and washed to create legacy sand for reuse at Tillers Turf.
This process continues to set an industry benchmark as the world’s only 100% recyclable pitch system.
Ahead of installation in early August 2025, the stadium surface underwent a two-day preparation programme, including light cultivation and laser grade levelling. The harvested pitch was then installed and, remarkably, handed back to the Tottenham Hotspur in-house grounds team just four days before the first home fixture of the new season.
The introduction of Tillers’ new hybrid carpet marks an exciting step forward for sustainable surface technology, with every element of the installation repurposed through in-house developed processes and sector-leading cleaning systems. Its environmentally-friendly credentials continue to attract the attention of some of the world’s most prestigious sporting venues.
Fineturf are proud to once again support Tottenham Hotspur Football Club in their commitment to sustainability and look forward to continuing the partnership next season.
