Fineturf, one of the country’s leading winter sports contractors, specialise in the construction, renovation and maintenance of football and rugby pitches. Having worked alongside a diverse selection of clients we have completed projects on single and multi pitch facilities and have been presented with unique construction challenges.

Site issues involving soil composition, formation and structures, remediation and drainage all present varying challenges. Working with our engineers to develop strategies to overcome site-specific issues has enabled us to gain a vast amount of experience and understanding in the successful construction of winter sports pitches.

Using this knowledge, we have developed specialised methods and machinery and sourced the highest quality materials for use on our projects. Our client base includes professional sports clubs, non-league clubs, local community clubs, local authorities, schools, academies and civil engineers.

Football and Rugby Pitch Construction

During our construction projects we work to and endeavour to exceed the standards set by Sport England, The Football Foundation, FIFA, The Rugby Football Foundation, IRB, RFU and RFL.

A construction project would typically involve the following:

  • Site surveying engineering
  • Design and project planning
  • Site security
  • Health and safety documentation
  • Existing surface and vegetation removal
  • Bulk earthworks
  • Primary and secondary drainage installation
  • Topsoil, rootzone and sports sand amelioration
  • Laser levelling
  • Ground preparation
  • Installation of playing surface, turf and sports seed
  • Growing in maintenance contract

Academies, School and Universities

Fineturf have delivered projects while working alongside civil engineering companies such as Balfour Beatty and Morgan Sindell and also while working directly with academies, schools and universities. These have ranged in size and scope from an 8,000m2 natural sports pitch to a 60,000m2 sports facility that included natural and artificial playing surfaces and a 400m athletics track.

Football and Rugby Pitch Maintenance

Regular and seasonal maintenance is essential to restore a worn playing surface, improve the growing medium, drainage and reduce surface irregularities. The following solutions will help ensure the surface continues to meet the high standards expected by sports club, players and supporters.

Annual Renovation

  • Surface removal
  • Laser grading
  • Primary and secondary drainage
  • Surface Installation

In Season Maintenance

  • Deep tine aeration
  • Sand and rootzone application
  • Overseeding
  • Seed, fertiliser, sand, rootzone and top dressing supplies
  • Weed and disease control products

Football and Rugby Pitch Surface Installation

The type of turf surface installed is dependant on both budget and the growing in period available before play commences.

Throughout the season penalty areas and centre circles are prone to wear and tear. Mid season renovation using large roll sports turf or install ‘n’ playball turf tiles. Our install ‘n’ playball operation means the new surface is instantly playable.
