End of Season Renovations
Neil Stubley, Head of Courts and Horticulture at AELTC
I have had the pleasure of maintaining a longstanding and fruitful partnership with Simon and his teams at Tillers Turf and Fineturf. This collaboration has spanned several years, commencing with individual construction and renovation projects under the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and extending to the successful creation of 16 grass courts and two football pitches at Raynes Park in 2020.
Benefiting from Simon's remarkable attention to detail, extensive knowledge, and unwavering commitment, we are confident that our projects are in capable hands. We eagerly anticipate the opportunity to collaborate once again in the near future, particularly as we embark on the Wimbledon Park 39 Grass court project.

Fineturf Projects
Karl McDermott, Head Groundsman, Lord's Cricket Ground
As a sports turf contractor, Fineturf have had an association with Lord’s since 1997. Over time, they have taken on more responsibilities and are now the preferred contractor that we turn to for any sports turf-related tasks. Alongside the extensive end of season outfield and square renovation works that are expertly undertaken annually, Fineturf were involved in the major outfield relaying project in 2002, which to this day is still performing as well as ever. Also, after the 2012 Olympic archery competition, Fineturf ensured the pavilion end of the ground was fully fit for play for a test match 13 days after the final arrow had been shot. In recent times, Lord’s has undertaken the rebuilding of the Warner stand and the Compton and Edrich stands, with Fineturf preparing and repairing the ground pre and post build to an excellent and ready for play standard. Fineturf is about to undertake another large project in October, with the Nursery ground outfield being completely dug up and relayed and a full irrigation system installed, giving Lord’s another world class facility for cricket use.
Fineturf's partnership with Lord's since 1997 has transformed them into the go-to sports turf contractor. From annual renovations to major projects like the 2002 outfield relaying and post-Olympic restoration, they've consistently excelled. Their upcoming project to overhaul the Nursery ground underscores their commitment to maintaining Lord's as a world-class cricket facility.

Wicket Renovation
Sean Williams, Head Grounds Manager, Gloucestershire County Cricket Club
Fineturf recently carried out our end of season renovation on the main square at Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, and once again the standard of work has been excellent. Having worked with Fineturf on several projects over the years, I've come to trust their professionalism, reliability, and consistent quality of delivery.
From start to finish, the team were efficient, well organised, and clearly take great pride in what they do. The machinery was first class, the operation ran smoothly, and the attention to detail throughout the process was outstanding. Communication was clear and proactive, ensuring the work was completed exactly to specification and on schedule.
The results speak for themselves the square has recovered superbly and is already showing the benefits of a first rate renovation. Fineturf's knowledge and experience in cricket pitch construction and maintenance are evident in the quality of their work, and I have no hesitation in continuing to use and recommend them.

Cricket Square Renovation
Kieron Jennings, Head Groundsman, Oxford United FC
It’s probably best that I start off by saying a massive thank you to everyone involved, from me and the team at Oxford United, the whole experience was very enjoyable from start to finish and even when the installation was completed, Fineturf have been on the end of the phone for us whether it be replying to all my pictures of the pitch progressing or checking in on us to see how things are. To be able to work so closely with Fineturf, especially after the installation, has definitely taken the pressure off me and the team. Knowing that we have someone with his knowledge and experience on the end of the phone is incredible.
The irrigation system Fineturf installed for us is unbelievable, there is no other words to describe it. They've gone that extra mile in making sure that we are happy with what we are receiving, and they worked incredibly hard to do so. Me and all the team couldn’t believe the condition of the product we received. The density was amazing, the plant health was incredible, and we just felt that once the installation was complete, we would be left in a really good place. We’ve had 2 games on it now, and the pitch has played very well. Everyone from the team manager to the board members seems very happy with what we have installed. We’ve met some amazing and hardworking people from start to finish, and we feel we’ve made some friends on the way. It’s an experience I won’t forget in my career, and I’m sure it’s the same for all the ground staff team here are Oxford United.
Thank you again for all your hard work.
Kieron & all the ground staff.

Pitch Construction
Graham Kimpton, Head Groundsman, The Queen's Club
In 2025, Fineturf undertook a full steam sterilisation and reconstruction of our iconic Centre Court at The Queen's Club, an operation demanding the utmost precision, care and technical expertise. Having witnessed their work up close, I'm pleased to state that their performance exceeded every expectation.
The steam sterilisation phase was carried out flawlessly, eliminating pathogens, pests and harmful microorganisms without the use of chemicals, and setting the foundation for a healthy, durable surface. Their team rigorously maintained the necessary thermal profiles (temperature and duration) throughout the treated depth, demonstrating both technical knowledge and strict quality control.
Fineturf's attention to detail was exemplary during all the earthwork stages, compacting, laser grading, ground preparation, and seeding. Each stage was executed with professionalism, accuracy, and respect for the court's heritage and playing standards. They maintained clear communication at all times, managed logistics smoothly, and adapted quickly to evolving site conditions.
I would have no hesitation recommending Fineturf for any elite court or grass court construction or renovation. Their innovative approach, technical mastery, reliability, and aftercare support make them a partner of choice for venues demanding the very highest standards.
