Tottenham Hotspur FC Training Centre Sand Banding – Phase Two, Academy Pitches 9-11

June 2026

Following the successful renovation and reconstruction of Academy Pitches 9-11 in June 2025, Fineturf were reappointed by Tottenham Hotspur to return to Hotspur Way Training Centre and begin the sand slit drainage programme across all three pitches.

Fineturf deployed the Shelton 710 trencher to install the first phase of slits at 1.5m centres across the renovated pitch surfaces, working with precision to ensure consistency across all three playing areas.

The backfill specification followed Fineturf’s proven approach for high-performance drainage. The lower portion of each channel was filled with 2–6mm gravel to maximise porosity and promote rapid downward water movement, with a secondary pass delivering Redhill 45 sports sand into the upper portion of the channel. This was press wheeled before a final pass topped the sand flush to a level finish.

This initial phase establishes the foundation of a sand slit drainage network across Academy Pitches 9-11, with a planned return in 2027 to interleave additional slits and bring the network down to 750mm centres — matching the proven specification already delivering excellent results on pitch seven.

The Fineturf team completed the works efficiently and within the required window, handing the pitches back to the Tottenham grounds staff in excellent condition ahead of the new season.
