Lord’s Cricket Ground Nursery Ground Renovations 2025

October 2025

In October 2025, the Nursery Ground at Lord’s Cricket Ground underwent a full programme of end of season renovations to restore surface quality, improve drainage, and prepare the area for the 2026 playing season. The works form part of MCC’s ongoing commitment to maintaining the world-class standards associated with the Home of Cricket.

The renovation began with scarification in three directions, using precision turf maintenance equipment to remove accumulated thatch, lateral growth, and organic matter. This process improved surface aeration and prepared the soil profile for topdressing and reseeding.

All loosened debris was thoroughly collected and removed from site using mechanical sweepers and vacuum collection equipment, ensuring the surface was left clean, level, and ready for the next stage of treatment.

A high-quality sports-grade sand was then evenly applied across the entire playing area using calibrated topdressing machinery. The sand dressing was brushed and dragmatted into the surface to restore levels, improve infiltration, and enhance the growing medium.

To encourage new growth and strengthen the sward ahead of winter, a Headland Greentech 6-5-18 pre-seeder fertiliser was applied to support balanced root and shoot development. The renovated surface was then lightly overseeded with MM50 Ryegrass mix, providing the density, wear tolerance, and colour required for high-performance cricket surfaces.

Once all operations were complete, the ground was finished by hand to ensure an even surface and optimal presentation before being covered with germination sheets. This helped maintain warmth and moisture, supporting rapid establishment of the new grass.

The 2025 renovations will ensure that the Nursery Ground continues to provide a high-quality playing and training surface, complementing the excellence of the Lord’s Main Square and reinforcing the venue’s reputation as the Home of Cricket.
