Manchester United Football Club Old Trafford Renovations 2025
June 2025
Following the successful completion of works across Manchester United’s training sites, Fineturf were once again proud to deliver the end-of-season renovations at Old Trafford in 2025.
The renovation began with two precise passes of the Koro Field Top Maker to remove the existing surface. The Unirake and Trilo Vac then cleared all debris, with additional hand finishing around the edges to ensure a consistently clean presentation. All waste and arisings were removed from site before the renovation progressed.
With the surface fully prepared, 50 bags of Blockaid were applied, followed by a carefully balanced programme of five different rootzone amendments, distributed evenly across the pitch using two Vicon spreaders. A further 10 tonnes of Profile Soil Amendment were incorporated to strengthen the soil structure and support long term pitch performance.
Seeding operations began with four passes of the dimple seeder before 200 tonnes of SP30 kiln dried sand were applied. Delivered in 1.25-tonne dry bags on pallets, the sand was carefully spread across the pitch and then dragmatted in four directions using a lightweight utility vehicle, ensuring perfect integration into the profile. To complete the seeding process, a further two passes were made with the dimple seeder, maximising coverage and creating the best environment for strong germination.
The final stage of the renovation saw Vertidrain aeration carried out to a depth of 100–125mm with 20mm tines, improving root development and surface resilience ahead of the grow in period. With all operations complete, the site was fully demobilised and left clean and tidy.
Our skilled team once again delivered works to the highest standard, ensuring Old Trafford retains its reputation as one of the finest playing surfaces in world football.
