Three Counties Showground Post-Event Recovery and Reinstation
May 2025
At the conclusion of the RHS Malvern Spring Festival on 11th May, Fineturf were contracted to reinstate the showground following the extraction of the event show gardens. While each project presents its own challenges, the key to this one is speed – with just over four weeks between the end of the festival and the start of the Royal Three Counties Show.
The RHS Malvern Spring Festival welcomed over 98,000 visitors across the four-day event, with the show gardens proving a popular highlight. However, once the Festival is at a close and the gardens are removed at pace – major recovery of the residual ground is required. The Fineturf team are no strangers to the task at hand, with 2025 marking the 10th consecutive year they’ve been entrusted with the project.
Fineturf began by levelling the ground, topping up levels where required with Tillers topsoil. The next step was to consolidate the newly applied topsoil, and decompact other areas to enhance recovery from the heavy footfall. With the ground prepared, the surface was then laid with Tillers Arena turf in thick cut rolls, to optimise the visual blend between the existing and renovated areas.
Operatives worked with both speed and accuracy to get the area turned around in just seven days – providing the maximum amount of time for the surface to consolidate before the start of the Royal Three Counties Show on Friday 13th June.
