Manchester United Training Centre, Littleton Road End of Season Renovations – Salford City FC Training Pitches

June 2026

Fineturf carried out the end of season renovation programme across the five training pitches at Littleton Road, the Manchester United-owned site currently leased to Salford City Football Club on a ten-year agreement.

The renovation began with an application of 700 tonnes of sports sand, top-dressed across all five pitches to improve surface levels, drainage, and playing characteristics ahead of the new season.

Disc seeding followed, with 50 bags of Johnsons Premier Pitch grass seed mix incorporated into the surface to promote strong, even germination and reinforce existing sward density. Eighty bags of 6-5-18 fertiliser were then applied to support root development and early season growth.

To relieve compaction and improve soil structure at depth, the pitches were verti-drained using 20mm tines to a depth of 180mm. This was followed by a solid tining pass using 13mm tines to a depth of 100mm, further improving aeration and surface drainage throughout the profile.

The programme concluded with a single pass of the dimple seeder, before all material was thoroughly worked into the surface using a drag mat, leaving the pitches in excellent condition ready for the off-season recovery period.
