Welwyn Garden City Golf Club Tee and Bunker Renovation

February 2013

Following successful past projects at Welwyn Garden City we returned in February 2013 to renovate the 1st tee and 18th bunkers.

The 1st tee, in need of some maintenance, was stripped of existing turf and a layer of topsoil. The topsoil was stockpiled for reuse later in the project. The levels were set and using our Volvo Excavator we cut and filled the area to create a 3-tier tee. The previously excavated topsoil was reimported and spread over the surface. We ameliorated a layer of rootzone into the topsoil prior to spreading the remaining rootzone over the tee. The rootzone was laser graded to ensure the levels were accurate and final ground preparation was carried out by hand. Pre turf fertiliser was applied and the tee turfed with Tillers Turf big roll.

The 18th green front side bunker was to be re-positioned further into the approach. The bunker and surrounding area was reshaped using our Volvo Excavator. An 80mm drainage pipe was installed in the bottom of the bunker and drained into the nearby rough. The bunker bottom was also lined with inverted turf to create a barrier between the sand and subsoil. Finally, the surrounding areas were prepped by hand and turfed.
