The Hurlingham Club Cricket Outfield, Nets, Bowling Green and Croquet Lawn Reinstatement
June 2026
In June 2026, The Hurlingham Club in London hosted a private event on behalf of Hermès, for which the club's grounds were closed to members for the day. Following the event, Fineturf was engaged to carry out a comprehensive reinstatement of the affected sports and landscape areas across the site, with the full programme of works completed and the club reopened for normal member use within two weeks.
Cricket Outfield
A proportion of the cricket outfield was top dressed and overseeded to restore surface quality following the event. A section of the outfield that serves a dual purpose as a multi-use croquet lawn was returfed using Tillers Turf's Lay & Play IP turf, the sister company's patented rootzone system developed to deliver a mature, immediately playable surface. The remainder of the outfield affected by the event was returfed using Tillers Arena Gold turf, restoring a consistent playing surface across the full area.
Cricket Nets
The cricket nets were fully resurfaced. This involved removing the existing turf, cultivating the ground, laser grading to achieve a true and level surface, carrying out final ground preparation, and seeding with MM50 grass seed.
Bowling Green
The surface of one of the club's bowling greens was stripped off, new rootzone material added, and the area cultivated and prepared before being seeded with MM10 amenity grass seed.
Croquet Lawns and Golf Green
Peripheral areas on two of the club's croquet lawns were reinstated, and a golf green on site was returfed.
Landscape Areas
Further areas of turfing were carried out across the wider site, including landscape areas near the Armoury and the Sunken Garden, among others.
Programme
The full scope of works was completed within two weeks, allowing The Hurlingham Club to reopen the site to its members for normal usage on schedule.
