Leicester Racecourse Lateral Drainage Installation and Track Widening Works

One of the UK's busiest racecourses now boasts a faster-draining, wider and more durable track thanks to major works completed by Fineturf.

Leicester Racecourse turned to Fineturf to tackle two key challenges on its heavily used surface: drainage and track width. The solution was a comprehensive lateral drainage system, installed at 2m and 3m centres - far closer than the industry standard 5m providing quicker water movement and ensuring consistent going, even in challenging conditions.

To further improve the racing line, Fineturf also widened the track. This involved installing 60m of 300mm twin wall pipe to extend the surface, easing pressure on high-wear sections and spreading footfall across a broader racing corridor. The result is a track that not only performs better under wet weather but also stands up to the relentless demands of a busy racing calendar.
