Leicester Racecourse Deep Tine Aeration

April 2026

Fineturf returned to Leicester Racecourse in April 2026 to carry out deep tine aeration across the entire circuit, continuing an annual maintenance programme that has seen us attend the venue each spring and autumn.

The works were completed using two GKB Deep Tine Aerators fitted with 1 inch solid tines, working to a depth of 250mm. Operating two machines simultaneously across the full track allowed the programme to be completed efficiently with minimal disruption to the racecourse schedule.

Deep tine aeration at this depth is essential on a flat racing circuit subject to the significant compaction pressures generated by repeated race-day and training traffic. Penetrating to 250mm ensures decompaction through the full depth of the rootzone and into the profile below, relieving compaction pans, improving gaseous exchange, and encouraging deep root development. This in turn produces a more resilient, consistent racing surface capable of recovering quickly between fixtures.

With Fineturf attending Leicester Racecourse twice yearly, the spring and autumn treatments ensure the track receives timely intervention at the key agronomic windows either side of the main racing season, maintaining surface performance and long-term profile health year on year.
