Epsom Downs Racecourse Parade Ring Turf Installation

April 2025

The iconic home of The Derby is once again ready to welcome the crowds, as Fineturf have completed the annual turf installation for the parade ring at Epsom Downs Racecourse.

Epsom Downs, a Grade 1 racecourse set on the North Downs in Surrey, is world-renowned for hosting The Derby - the most prestigious flat race in the calendar. In preparation for the 2025 racing season, Fineturf were appointed to install the temporary turf parade ring, a feature that transforms the space into a vibrant centrepiece for racegoers and connections.

Covering an area of approximately 1,200m?, the parade ring is formed by laying 40mm thick cut turf directly over a block-paved car park. Despite its unusual base, the high quality turf provides an immaculate and resilient surface throughout the season.

Once installed, the parade ring is expertly maintained by the Epsom Downs groundstaff, who water and manage the surface throughout the spring and summer to ensure it remains in peak condition for some of the most important meetings in British racing.

This project continues a long-standing relationship between Fineturf and Epsom Downs Racecourse, delivering the precision and attention to detail required for one of the sport's most iconic venues.
