Devonshire Park, Eastbourne Steam Sterilisation

August 2026

Fineturf carried out a steam sterilisation programme on the Show Court at Devonshire Park, Eastbourne, home of the Rothesay International Eastbourne, in mid-August 2026.

Arriving shortly after the tournament's conclusion, the team treated the Show Court as part of Devonshire Park's end-of-season programme, working to restore the surface ahead of the venue's wider renovation and preparing the ground for competitive tennis when the tour returns.

Fineturf's custom-built steam unit delivered precise heat treatment across the court, reaching 85°C in the top 65mm of the soil profile for one hour and at least 60°C further into the rootzone — sufficient to clear weeds, pests and disease from the ground without chemical treatment.

Eastbourne's coastal setting and tight late-summer scheduling window called for close coordination with the Devonshire Park grounds team, ensuring the work was completed within the narrow gap between the tournament and the onset of autumn weather.

The Eastbourne visit is the latest addition to Fineturf's expanding programme of grass court sterilisation work, bringing the standards developed at Wimbledon to another of the sport's historic English venues.
