Cheltenham Racecourse Jump Takeoff & Landing Reconstruction
May 2026
In May 2026, Fineturf were contracted to carry out remedial earthworks to four jump takeoff and landing areas at Cheltenham Racecourse. The scope of works involved levelling operations to address uneven ground profiles across both the takeoff and landing zones of each jump.
Works commenced with the careful removal of the existing turf sward, followed by stripping of the existing topsoil to expose the subsoil below. The subsoil was then levelled and regraded, with the topsoil subsequently replaced and married into the surrounding levels to create a consistent finished profile throughout.
Following reinstatement of the topsoil, the surface was cultivated and brought through to a fine tilth ahead of final ground preparation. A pre-seeding fertiliser of 6:5:18 was applied to the prepared seedbed prior to seeding. The areas were sown with MM60 amenity grass seed at a rate of 70 grams per square metre to establish a durable, hardwearing sward suitable for the demands of jump racing.
