Breckland Council Artificial Cricket Pitch Installation

October 2026

Fineturf was appointed by Breckland Council to install a new non-turf cricket pitch, providing a durable, all-weather playing surface for community cricket.

The installation comprised an ECB-approved non-turf cricket pitch system, using components from an officially tested and certified system design that meets ECB Technical Standard TS6 and its associated performance requirements.

Works began with the excavation of the pitch footprint to a depth of 100 mm. A geotextile membrane was laid across the prepared formation to separate the sub-base from the underlying soil, helping to prevent contamination and maintain long-term stability. A 100 mm layer of Type 1 stone was then installed over the membrane and thoroughly compacted to form a firm, stable sub-base for the system.

A 15 mm layer of Ollysett granite dust was spread over the sub-base and compacted to create a smooth, level and consistent finished base. A 10 mm shock pad was laid on top of the prepared base to provide cushioning and help deliver true, consistent ball bounce.

The cricket carpet was then laid over the shock pad and secured into the ground along each side and at each end, ensuring the surface remains firmly fixed, taut and safe for play.

On completion, the ground around the outside of the pitch was reinstated, leaving a neat, finished installation ready for use.
