Birstall Bowls Club Green Renovation

October 2012

Birstall Bowls Club, in Leicestershire, approached Fineturf to renovate their bowling green surface and with a great deal of experience in this area, we were happy to assist.

The existing surface was removed using a Hallmarket big roll turf harvester, heaped up, loaded into a trailer and transported off site. With the surface clean and clear from debris it was aerated to a depth of 150-200mm using 25mm tines.

The surface was cultivated using a Blec stone burier and levelled using a Blec Laser Grader. 40 tonnes of Sibelco Messingham 45 sports sand was spread using a Pro Gator Dakota Turf Tender and the sports sand ameliorated into the cultivated surface prior to re-grading.

The final surface was prepared using two Blec Pedestrian Rotor Rakes followed by a lute and hand rakes. 6:5:18 fertiliser was applied and the surface sown using Tillers Fescue / Bent greens turf grown on USGA sand.
