Birstall Bowls Club, in Leicestershire, approached Fineturf to renovate their bowling green surface and with a great deal of experience in this area, we were happy to assist.
The existing surface was removed using a Hallmarket big roll turf harvester, heaped up, loaded into a trailer and transported off site. With the surface clean and clear from debris it was aerated to a depth of 150-200mm using 25mm tines.
The surface was cultivated using a Blec stone burier and levelled using a Blec Laser Grader. 40 tonnes of Sibelco Messingham 45 sports sand was spread using a Pro Gator Dakota Turf Tender and the sports sand ameliorated into the cultivated surface prior to re-grading.
The final surface was prepared using two Blec Pedestrian Rotor Rakes followed by a lute and hand rakes. 6:5:18 fertiliser was applied and the surface sown using Tillers Fescue / Bent greens turf grown on USGA sand.
“We as a club would like to thank you and your staff for our recent green re-furbishment. From day one, way back in the early part of this yea, you and all of your staff, both in the office and out in the field, have been most helpful. To see the lads beavering away during last week was admirable to say the least. Every single one of them worked tremendously hard, both individually and as a team. The standard of material and equipment used were first class and green now looks fantastic thanks t you and your staff. As a club we hold you in high esteem and would have no hesitation in recommending you to anyone, I would like to think that between us we have built up a good relationship and long may it continue.”
